Day 2
Single Bounce

The single bounce is the primary position when we jump. This is also known as an 'Open', due to the fact our hands are by our pockets such that the rope makes an open loop around our body.

How?

Jump lightly on the balls of your feet with your heels off the ground and your feet together. Use your elbows and wrists to turn the rope by shaking imaginary water off your hands onto the floor. With your hands in your pockets turn the rope and jump over it, one jump per turn of the rope. This is different from a double bounce where we intentionally jump twice per turn of the rope.

Why?

This is our 'home' position. When we finish any other skill, this is where we return home to. In jump rope culture it is considered a mark of discipline to do always complete the single bounce that immediately follows a new complex skill, no matter how sloppy it might be, to count the new skill as ‘unlocked’.
