Ground Crosses
Ground crosses are skills where one or both hands cross around the jumper’s knees/shins whilst the jumper is crouched close to the floor, usually with the rope on the ground. Ground crosses a such as the Caboose are perfect for beginners who want to explore more advanced skills since the whole skill can be performed without jumping whatsoever - you can literally walk yourself through it!
Coach Chris’s Top Tips
✅ Stop the rope on the floor completely before entering the skill
✅ Keep your chest low and parallel to the ground
✅ Pull the rope back in a sweeping motion like a bobsleigh
‼️ Avoid slapping the floor with the rope by entering too fast
‼️ Avoid uncrossing during the middle of the skill and snagging your ankles

Step-throughs
Step-through skills are a special type of ground crosses. Think of them like the brainchild of leg crosses and ground crosses where the jumper doesn’t jump at all, but steps through rope. Each skill borrows its hand placements from the leg crosses, but they all lend themselves to the body position of ground crosses where the jump keeps themselves close to the ground throughout the skill.
Coach Chris’s Top Tips
✅ Step over the rope with the leg you would’ve jumped on
✅ Wait for the rope to pass over your head in front of you before exiting
✅ Try your best to keep the rope travelling vertical at all times
‼️ Avoid letting the rope touch your legs as it passes in between them
‼️ Avoid letting your unrestricted hand pass over your head
