What Are Good Songs For Jump Rope?

A jump rope workout can elevate with the inclusion of a good music playlist. Different people use music in their jump rope workouts for different reasons. Sometimes for speed training, choreography or simply the great vibe it manifests.

As a jump rope coach, I use two playlists for my jump rope sessions that I share with clients. One is for speed training and the other is for choreography.

My speed training playlist contains songs that are all in a 4/4 time signature so they have a consistent even rhythm. The songs are organised in speed order so as you work through the playlist they get gradually faster and faster. When training for speed, count every time your right foot touches the floor. So, for a song with a 90bpm, your right foot will touch the floor 90 times. The playlist has songs from 70bpm through to 135bpm so it’s perfect for beginner and advanced jumpers alike.

My choreography playlist contains a shortlist of songs which sit around the 135bpm and is perfect for single-rope freestyle combos. If you like mic releases, leg crosses, wraps and other single-under skills then this playlist will provide a great challenge as you attempt to jump every skill on-the-beat. Doing so can really amplify the creativity in your combos, so I strongly recommend trying it out if you haven’t before.
